security hearings. With the Soviet’s testing of an atomic bomb in 1949, and the revelation of Klaus Fuchs’ espionage, Teller was finally given the approval to develop the hydrogen bomb. He, along with Stanislaw Ulam, developed the basic principles of the hydrogen bomb. Their device was first tested on Nov. 1, 1952. Teller continues to be a strong advocate of the build-up and development of nuclear weapons. Most recently he supported the creation of an anti-ballistic missile shield. Teller is Director Emeritus at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, which he helped to create.
